Welcome to the world of stained glass! In this immersive summer course your child will spend 5 half days, totaling 15 hours crafting either a stained glass panel measuring roughly 11.5" x 8", or three suncatchers of their design and choice.
Perfect for those budding artists with no glass experience this hands-on workshop covers the essentials of glass cutting, grinding, foiling and soldering. Yes, your child can really make a beautiful piece of stained glass and learn the craft in just one week!
This week long class blends art, craftsmanship, and fun in a supportive studio environment. No prior experience needed—just a love for color, creativity, and learning something new!
Logistics and Terms:
- Duration: 5 days M-F, 15 hours total
- Time:
- Ages 12-14, 8.30am - 11.30am
- Ages 15-18, 1pm - 4.00pm
- Cost: $350 per child
- No prerequisites required, waiver will be signed on first day drop off.
- Refund Policy - No refunds on deposit once paid, if unable to attend with 72 hrs notice, credit is transferrable.
Rough Schedule:
Day One - We will spend some time showing equipment and safety in the studio, your child will design their stained glass panel, or choose suncatchers, and then choose their glass.
Day Two - We will review safety quickly and do a demo on how to cut glass safely using all equipment and safety precautions. Your child will spend day two learning to safely cut glass and beginning their glass cutting journeys!
Day Three - After a demo your child will learn to use a glass grinder (not sharp) to carefully sand away the edges of their cut glass pieces
Day Four - We will carefully wrap each piece of sanded glass in copper foil tape which provides the base layer for the solder to sit on
Day Five - After a soldering demo and safety talk, we will walk your child through soldering their pieces together into a suncatcher or panel.
Extra Info:
- We will practice safety and PPE in the studio and take this very seriously. This includes gloves, fume extractors, proper air circulation, respirator masks or N95 masks when soldering and grinding. During multiple times of the day we require the students wash their hands with a soap that removes any contaminants, solder particles or chemical residue if spilled and to prevent spread.
- Please arrive 15 mins early on First session to sign waiver.
- Water and snack will be provided, if your child has any dietary requirements please let us know ahead of time and we will let you know if we can accommodate, otherwise please pack a snack and drink.
- There will be two teachers per class of 6-8 children at any time ensuring we have ample support for your child and can answer and support any and all questions.
- We will use stools at a workbench, if you require a lower table and chair, please let me know before class so I can make accomodations!
